Common questions
Where is my data stored?
On your device. The app encrypts the content of every item before writing or syncing any of it. With an active Serial & Story+ subscription, an encrypted copy also syncs to your own private iCloud account so your other devices signed in to the same Apple ID receive the same inventory. Anchorwright never receives your data or your key. A small amount of metadata (record IDs, timestamps, and each item’s bundle and type labels) is not encrypted. What Apple is able to open in iCloud depends on your iCloud settings. The Privacy Policy explains both points.
Do I need an account?
No. Serial & Story has no accounts and no sign-in. It works with your own iCloud account or entirely offline.
What is free?
The Household bundle is free, with no item limit and no time limit. Adding, viewing and editing Household items never requires a subscription, and neither do CSV export, the single-item Insurance & Police report or the story share, in any bundle. Serial & Story+ is an optional subscription. With Serial & Story+ you add new items to the Equipment, Vehicles, Collectibles & Jewelry, and Firearms bundles, and you get iCloud sync and backup across your own devices, Digital Legacy tools, and two exports: Report Multiple Items and Export for Attorney. Items already in any bundle stay viewable with or without a subscription.
How do I manage or cancel a subscription?
Subscriptions are billed by Apple, not by Anchorwright. Manage or cancel one at any time in the Settings app on your iPhone, under your name, then Subscriptions.
I lost access to my data.
If you have a Serial & Story+ subscription and set up a Recovery Key, use Restore from Recovery Key in the app’s Settings. Restoring on a new device needs an active Serial & Story+ subscription on the Apple ID signed in to the App Store on that device. This includes a restore from a printed recovery key. Anchorwright holds no copy of your key or your data and has no way to recover either for you. The app is built so neither one ever reaches us.
